PLAN NOW FOR NEXT SUMMER'S MULTI-FAMILY NATIONAL PARK TRIP
For Immediate Release
DENVER, August 28, 2007 - Planning to meet those far-away friends and relatives for a national park reunion next summer? It is not too soon to plan next summer's multi-family gathering and book rooms and activities. According to concessioner Xanterra Parks & Resorts, vacationers are already booking rooms and activities at some of the country's most popular national treasures like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon.
Rooms at Xanterra-operated lodges in Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Death Valley, Crater Lake and the Grand Canyon can be booked up to 13 months in advance.
"Travelers booking several rooms and planning multi-faceted national park stays for multiple families should begin thinking seriously about their plans," said Judi Lages, vice president of sales and marketing for Xanterra Parks & Resorts. "Even if your plans change - and they often do - booking rooms now ensures that travelers have their pick of the rooms and lodges that are most suitable for their group."
Travelers also can book popular activities such as Grand Canyon mule rides. With limited capacity, mule rides often sell out more quickly than other activities.
When choosing a national park for multiple-family groups - especially those with a wide range in ages - Lages suggests doing online research to determine what is available. "We find that many groups like to split up during the day for activities that are most suitable for their own families and then reunite in the evening to recap the day's events."
At Yellowstone National Park, for example, families with young children may want to participate in the National Park Service's Junior Ranger program, teens may want to take on a rigorous hiking trail and adults with relaxation as their ultimate goal may wish to retreat with a book to a comfortable chair in the lobby of the venerable Old Faithful Inn.
Xanterra manages concessions in Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Crater Lake, Rocky Mountain, Death Valley and Petrified Forest National Parks, and Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Over the past several years, the company has expanded its interpretive programs, which emphasize environmental sustainability, as well as the history, culture and geology of various parks.
