James W. McCaleb, Vice President, Parks North
James W. McCaleb, Vice President, Parks North for Xanterra Parks & Resorts, is responsible for operations at Yellowstone National Park, Crater Lake National Park, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, and five state park resorts in Ohio. McCaleb also serves as the general manager for the Yellowstone operation and has held that position for 14 years.
Jim has attained nearly 35 years of national park concessions management experience. He held a variety of seasonal management positions with the Yellowstone concessioner during the latter seventies and early eighties. In 1982, Jim assumed the position of Director of Operations for the Utah Parks Division of TW Services, Inc. In that capacity, he directed the guest operations at Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Grand Canyon (North Rim) national parks.
In 1985, Jim returned to Yellowstone after accepting the position of Executive Director, Operations for TW Services’ concessions operations in the park. With the acquisition of TW by Xanterra Parks & Resorts in December 1995, he was promoted to General Manager of the division.
Jim received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in business administration from Oregon State University in 1981. He was selected to serve on A Christian Ministry in the National Parks (ACMNP) national board of directors in September 2004 and appointed to its board of trustees in 2007. Jim was a member of the Yellowstone Park School Board for nine years, serving as chairman for three of those years. He has served on the Wyoming Lodging and Restaurant Association’s board of directors for the past 18 years. He was president during the 2002/2003 term and is a past chairman of the board for the association. In addition, he was selected to serve as a director on the board of the WLRA Education Foundation and is a past president of the Foundation. He is a member of the American Hotel & Lodging Association’s (AH&LA) national board of directors, representing the state of Wyoming. He serves as a committee member on AH&LA’s Lodging Industry Rating Advisory Council.
In July 2007, Jim was appointed by Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal to serve a three-year term on the nine-member Wyoming Travel & Tourism board.
Jim McCaleb was honored by Xanterra Parks & Resorts as its General Manager of the Year in both 2001 and 2004, and received the state’s prestigious “Big Wyo” award recognizing him as Wyoming’s top tourism official in 2009.
