John W. Wimmer, Chief Information Officer
John W. Wimmer, Chief Information Officer for Xanterra Parks & Resorts since 2006, is an IT professional with more than 20 years of executive experience in Management Information Systems. Prior to joining Xanterra, Wimmer was Director of Resort Technology for Micros Systems, a software company that provides software for hotels, restaurants, stadiums, arenas, and resorts. Wimmer’s position with Micros included day-to-day management of major resort accounts such as Greenbrier, Sea Island and Kiawah Island as well as developing long term business plans for the resort technology division to ensure Micros products addressed the evolving needs of the resort marketplace.
Wimmer’s experience includes serving as Director of Information Systems for Kiawah Island Resort, where he was responsible for the entire information system infrastructure for the five-star resort on a barrier island off the coast of South Carolina. He also served as Director of Information Systems for The Homestead, a five-star resort that was part of the Pinehurst Company Division of Clubcorp International. Prior to his entry into the hospitality industry, Wimmer spent five years as a programmer/analyst installing Dun & Bradstreet applications and eight years as financial systems project leader for Centra Health, Inc.
Under Wimmer’s leadership, Xanterra’s MIS department manages a technical landscape that includes a wide area network that spans coast to coast locations and also services a hospitality system portfolio that bridges older technical architectures to the latest in tiered processing environments. Over the next few years, Wimmer will lead the company’s efforts in consolidating the various operational systems into a set of standard applications as well as continual upgrading of the technology infrastructure on which these applications are used throughout the Xanterra enterprise.
Wimmer is a graduate of Concord College in Athens, West Virginia with a bachelor’s of science degree in Computer Science/Mathematics. Wimmer received his master of science in information and telecommunications systems for business for Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in the fall of 2007.
