For Immediate Release
CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK, Ore. – May 20, 2014 – Xanterra Parks & Resorts has appointed Mike Keller general manager of its operations in Crater Lake National Park. Keller replaces longtime general manager Charles Willis who has retired.
Keller is moving to Crater Lake after spending 28 years in Yellowstone National Park. For the past nine years he was executive director of operations overseeing some 2,300 guest rooms, 17 food and beverage facilities, nine retail outlets and various activities. Keller has held various management positions in the company, including seven years as manager of operations in Old Faithful Village.
“Having worked with Mike so closely and for so long I am 100 percent confident that he is the right person for our Crater Lake operations,” said Jim McCaleb, Xanterra’s vice president of parks north and the general manager of Yellowstone National Park Lodges. “Mike strives to know all aspects of the operations, and he will quickly become a fixture in the surrounding communities.”
At Crater Lake, Keller will oversee Crater Lake Lodge on the rim, cabins and campgrounds in Mazama Village, restaurants and retail operations. He will also be instrumental as a small number of rooms are opened to the public this coming winter.
The Rim Village Café & Gift Shop is currently open year-round. The 71-room Crater Lake Lodge is open mid-May through mid-October, and the Mazama Village Motor Inn is open June through early October. From October to June, the park receives an average of more than 500 inches of snow.
The 183,224-acre Crater Lake National Park was established in 1902 as the country’s fifth national park. The park was created to protect Crater Lake, located in the caldera that resulted from the collapse of a volcano. At 1,947 feet, Crater Lake is the deepest and clearest lake in the country. It is surrounded by lava walls 500 to 2,000 feet high.
